Vor über 30 Jahren wurde kurz in einem Töpferzirkel mitgearbeitet. Ohne eigenen Brennofen für Töpferartikel geriet die Beschäftigung mit dieser Art Kunstwerk in den Hintergrund. Jetzt im Rentenalter kam diese Freizeitbeschäftigung wieder in den Sinn, gibt es doch lufttrocknendes Material für diesen Zweck. Das Angebot kam als ein Tontöpferset mit allem, was man für dieses Hobby benötigt: lufttrocknender Ton, entsprechendes Werkzeug sowie Farben und Lack. Dem Paket liegt auch eine bebilderte Beschreibung bei, für Anfänger ist diese allerdings etwas mager gehalten. Sie bezieht sich vorwiegend auf die Handhabung der Werkzeuge, weniger auf die Vorbereitung und Handhabung des Tonmaterials. Frisch ans Werk und der erste Versuch soll ein kleiner Anhänger werden. Auf einem alten Frühstücksbrettchen wurde eine Eule gestaltet (Bild 1). Nach der vorgegebenen Trocknungszeit von 2 Tagen der Versuch, das Werk vom Untergrund zu lösen. Es stellte sich heraus, daß diese Zeit für die Durchtrocknung nicht ausreichend ist und dünne Stellen in der Figur ganz leicht auseinanderbrechen (Bild 2). Nächster Schritt war die Bemalung, die mitgelieferten Acrylfarben entsprachen nicht dem Angebot (Bild 3), es waren 2 Tuben gelbe Farbe vorhanden, dafür fehlte die Farbe ocker. Wünschenswert wäre eine Tube weißer Farbe, denn die Farbe des Tons ist zwar weiß, aber mit einem geringen grauen Schein (Bilder 4 und 5). Diesen ersten Versuch sehen wir als gelungen an, bei den nächsten Versuchen werden die Erfahrungen in Anwendung kommen (Trocknungszeit, dünne Stellen vermeiden usw). Das Set ist für Anfänger in der Töpferei gedacht und alles Notwendige für den Start wird mitgeliefert. Deshalb sind 5 Sterne angemessen.

It is good to know that my already extensive collection of craft supplies can be used alongside the items in this kit. I also make my own jewellery, so I will also explore making jewellery items with it.There are ideas from creating plant pots, candle holders, napkin rings, and also for embellishing plain photo frames. It also seems you can “press” natural or textured items into the clay to give a textural or relief effect.Mine did come with two tubes of lemon yellow and was missing the orange yellow. I also received Widdick Brown rather than black, but that's not too much of an issue. The colours are probably more or less what is shown on the product page, with slightly varying shades.Price wise, this kit is currently on sale for £42.99, but at the moment there is a voucher for 20% off, making it under £35, which I think is remarkable value considering everything you receive. I have compared the individual items with a well-known craft store and buying it this way from Amazon is not only more economical, but also more convenient.In conclusion, I am delighted with this kit, and already see it as the start of a new hobby for the New Year.
