Les crins sont sans doute mal fixés : l‘archet en perd anormalement

I play Fiddle tunes, Jigs, Reels & Hornpipes etc so this bow is fine for that. It is a little shorter and lighter than a standard modern bow, so all to the good for playing jigs and reels in the pub! It took me a short while to get used to, maybe half an hour of playing, but I was soon happy with the bow. My friends who have learned classical violin, but play folk tunes, found this bow difficult to use at first, but they soon got the hang of it. I like to have something a little different, as this bow is, it performs well for me but, if you're a classical player, you might find it a little restricting, I only use a few inches of the bow so I don't!

I made several failed attempts to learn the violin over the past several years. The main problem I had was learning to control the bow. Another problem was finding a good way to hold the violin. I tried it with and without a shoulder rest and both ways felt awkward and uncomfortable.Recently I saw someone playing baroque style with a shorter bow and no shoulder or chin rest.I took the shoulder and chin rests off of my violin and found it easier to hold and play, (except for shifting which was very easy with the shoulder rest). The modern bow was still giving me trouble so I ordered this baroque style bow. It seems well made, the snakewood is beautiful, the bow hair is neatly applied, and the tension adjuster works smoothly. It was also packed extremely well in a PVC pipe.I find it easier to control than the two modern bows I have, and it’s less prone to bouncing and skipping across the strings.I’m finally making some progress.I know it seems counterintuitive for a beginner to remove modern additions to the violin designed to improve comfort and control, and go back to a bow design that hasn’t been popular in many years, but in my case doing so got me practicing again.
