We've been fans of Kinetic Sand for our daughter's entire childhood. For those not familiar, Kinetic sand is made up of 98% regular sand and 2% polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) which is a kind of silicone polymer that allows the sand to be molded as if it were wet, but it actually remains dry to the touch without any kind of oily residue. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the most ingenious toy inventions ever. We've been able to build entire sandcastles and other sand creations normally reserved for the beach at home with Kinetic sand and we've used the same bags of Kinetic sand over and over again. Clean up is always a breeze.This product seems like a little bit of a stretch for Kinetic sand--it seems to be more of the kind of activity you'd do with Play Doh. But it works. It's basically a more sophisticated kind of mold where you can extrude the sand and create a "magical blooming flower". Channeling Play Doh it also has some molds on the bottom. It comes with 8 ounces of yellow and magenta sand. You'll need to watch your kids carefully because the first thing they're going to want to do is mix them together, and unfortunately once you mix them you can't separate them.To be honest, I'd prefer Kinetic sand to stick to its roots and encourage kids to stick to building things that are more suited to sand. This goes produce a lively looking flower, and if you have different colors of Kinetic sand you can make a lovely garden. But I feel its replay value is limited as compared to, say, their sets that let you create sandcastles and sand sculptures.If you don't have bags and bags of Kinetic sand in your house along with sand castle molds and tools, you're definitely missing out. It's not just for kids either; I have a little sandbox on my desk with some sand castle tools that I use as a desk toy when I need to think at work.That said, it's a lot of fun and I love that the Kinetic Sand is still made in Sweden, while the plastic parts are durable, solid, and made in Mexico. There have been a lot of imitators, but nothing beats the original.

My 6 year old loves Kentic sand so was so excited to get this. It comes with two shades of sand, one pink and one yellow colour, along with the flower pot/ moulds. She had great fun making it into a flower, but of course almost instantly got the two shades of sand mixed up so it didn't come out quite like the picture, but she was still happy.It was a great way to give her a somewhat "messy"/ creative activity, without their being much mess to clear up as you just shove it back in the packet to play with another day, and have a quick hoover up of the sand that made it to the floor. I'm not a huge fan of the texture of normal sand, but for some reason this kinetic sand I find a lot more bearable, it's softer and almost has a squidgy, bouncy quality to it.Overall, I'd say this is a nice activity if you're short on time but want to do something fun, and it offers good value for money.

This is a great kinetic sand kit for the price! The squishy insert is fun to use to demonstrate a flower "blooming." I gifted this to my 4 year old on Valentines day as a little activity for us to do together, and we both had a lot of fun! It comes with a good amount of kinetic sand so that if you have two people who just want to play with the sand, you each get a good handful. My 4 year old did need help figuring it out/how to do it, but that was the point - to have an activity for us to do together. Overall, we really enjoyed it.

The Kinetic Sand SquishBlossom blooming flower brings the usual high-quality, soft, and mouldable kinetic sand experience with a unique blooming flower effect that is fun to watch. The included moulds add some extra play value, and as the sand inevitably mixes together, it blends into a pleasant coral colour rather than an unappealing brown that you usually get from mixing things like Kinetic Sand or Play Doh. The packaging is also well-designed, making it a great option for gifting.However, while the blooming effect is cool, it loses its novelty quite quickly, and the overall play potential feels a bit limited compared to other Kinetic Sand sets. Still, for fans of sensory play and kinetic sand, this makes for a fun and visually satisfying addition to their collection.
